Assam: Minor girl dies after being abducted and gang-raped

In less than a week after a physically challenged minor girl and her mother were gang raped in Guwahati, another incident of minor’s gang rape has been reported from Hailakandi.
A 14-year-old girl died in Hailakandi after she was abducted and allegedly gang-raped by three youths.
The incident happened at the Rojkandi Bagan area in Hailakandi.
Police said that on July 5, the injured minor girl along with her father came to the police station. Since her health condition was not good at all she was taken to a local hospital. She later succumbed to injuries in the hospital.
Police have arrested two of the three accused persons, while the main accused identified as Zubair Ahmed Talukdar is absconding.
A case has been filed against the accused persons under the ‘Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Bill (POCSO) Act.
Further investigation into the matter is underway and efforts to nab Zubair Ahmed is on, said police.
Meanwhile, locals staged a protest in the area with placards in hand and demanded strict punishment for the culprits.
