Assam flood situation improves; number of affected down from 4.88 lakh to 4.07 lakh in last 24 hours

The flood scenario in Assam has marginally improved, with the number of affected districts coming down to 15 on Saturday from 19 on Friday. The number of affected people too has dropped from 4,88,525 on Friday to 4,07,771 today. Among the affected, 4318 are children.

So far, three people have lost their lives, with one death reported from Nalbari today.

The crop area destroyed in the last 24 hours stands at 8,469.56 hectares, down from 10,782.80 hectares a day ago. The total number of animal and livestock affected stands at 4,10,055.

Around 81,352 displaced people, including 4318 children and 49 lactating or pregnant women, are taking shelter in the 220 relief camps, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority’s report released today said.
River Brahmaputra at Tezpur and Neamatighat are flowing above the danger mark.
The worst affected districts are – Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Golaghat, Kamrup, Kokrajhar, Darang, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Nalbari, Tamulpur and Udalguri.
