hief Minister Sarma further informed that Rs 500 cr has been estimated to improve connectivity between Guwahati and Jagiroad and build a satellite township in Jagiroad

The Bhoomi Poojan (ground breaking ceremony) for the Rs 27,000 crore Tata semiconductor facility in Jagiroad, Assam, will be held on August 3.

Speaking to the media, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that construction of the much-anticipated semiconductor facility will formally begin on August 3 and it will be completed within two years.

The chief minister further informed that the state government has plans to develop the connectivity between Guwahati and Jagiroad.

“We have submitted a scheme of Rs 500 crore to the Centre for improving the connectivity between Jagiroad and Guwahati, apart from carrying out other developmental activities, including constructing new stadiums,” Chief Minister Sarma added.

“After the approval of the Rs 500 crore scheme, a lot of infrastructure development will occur in Jagiraod around the Tata semiconductor project. We are aware that the Tiwa people live near Jagiraod. We do not want to harm the Tiwa people and other tribal communities during the proposed expansion,” the chief minister said.

“We will emphasize social development more, like setting up new colleges or a new stadium so that no one has any objection to it. We do not want to rush things and bring in overnight transformation. We aim to introduce phased-wise development and changes,” Chief Minister Sarma added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) Facility in Jagiroad in March this year.
