Malpractices in NEET Exams: Well-defined SOP will be issued for frisking all candidates entering the centres
Are National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) exams in Assam being manipulated? Are private centres becoming hotspots for malpractice? Are some students securing abnormally high marks from select private centres?
These questions have surfaced after a discreet inquiry by Assam Police suspected that some candidates taking the NEET exams from certain private exam centres in the state were scoring exceptionally high.
Concerned, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, today chaired a crucial meeting with the Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and senior officials, proposing a series of stringent measures to uphold the integrity of the NEET examination process.
- To eliminate the possibility of irregularities, all NEET exam centres in Assam will now be restricted to government or government-aided colleges, doing away with private institutions as venues.
- Enhanced security protocols will be implemented for the transportation, distribution, and storage of examination materials, reducing any chances of tampering or leak.
- Every candidate will undergo Aadhaar-based or biometric authentication at the exam centre, ensuring that only genuine applicants appear for the test and impersonation is ruled out.
- All examination venues will be equipped with comprehensive CCTV monitoring systems to keep a close eye on activities during the exam and create a strong deterrent against cheating.
- A well-defined SOP will be issued for frisking all candidates entering the centres to prevent the use of electronic devices or any unauthorised material.
- Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police will conduct physical inspections of each exam venue ahead of the exam day to ensure readiness and adherence to safety and cleanliness norms.
- Senior civil service and police officials will be deputed to oversee both the preparation and real-time conduct of the examination to ensure accountability and smooth functioning.
- The Chief Secretary of Assam, Ravi Kota, and DGP Harmeet Singh will maintain close coordination with the Director General of the NTA for meticulous planning and flawless execution of the examination process.
The state government has reiterated its strict stance that any individual or group found attempting to manipulate or cheat during the examination will face swift and severe legal consequences.
“We are committed to holding every exam with the highest level of transparency and NEET being a very important exam, we are deploying all assets to ensure its fair and smooth conduct,” CM Sarma tweeted.
