BJP leader and Assam cabinet minister Jayanta Malla Baruah had slammed Ajmal for his sexist remarks and termed him a 'Political Terrorist’

AIUDF Chief and Lok Sabha MP from Dhubri, Assam, Badruddin Ajmal is facing a huge backlash. He is facing the ire not just from Opposition parties but his own party members too. While his own party man, Aminul Islam termed his remarks as ’objectionable’ and uncalled for, Congress leader Debabrata Saikia and AJP filed FIRs against the perfume baron. The Assam government too is mulling action against Ajmal.

BJP leader and Assam cabinet minister Jayanta Malla Baruah had slammed Ajmal for his sexist remarks and termed him a ‘Political Terrorist’.

Ajmal’s derogatory and sexist remarks against Hindu marriage men and women has created fissures within his own party when AIUDF general secretary and Mankachar MLA Aminul Islam said that Ajmal’s comments will neither be accepted nor has been accepted by anyone in the state. “It was objectionable, which he (Badruddin Ajmal) himself has admitted and we too admit it. Besides, people of Assam too have realised that he should not have said like this.”

Ajmal courted controversy with his remarks yesterday when he said that Hindus should adopt the Muslim formula of marriage and marry young to produce more children like Muslims.

Trouble seems to be brewing for Ajmal as Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Debabrata Saikia and AJP vice-president Dulu Ahmed has filed FIRs in different police stations across the state.
According to the Congress leader, Ajmal has insulted women by making derogatory remarks. Debabrata Saikia said, “I have filed a complaint with the police against our Dhubri MP & AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal since he has insulted the women by making derogatory comments. He has made derogatory, unconstitutional remark and therefore under Sections 153, 153 (A) and 509 of the IPC I have filed a case. I demand that legal action is being initiated. I have already told the government to take suo moto cognizance and file a case so that there is no sensational situation. Some are saying that there is a political agenda etc behind this but this is none of our business since we have taken the pledge to safeguard our Constitution.”

Dulu Ahmed filed complaints at Hatigaon police station, Hailakandi and Dhubri.

Ajmal had yesterday apologised for his remarks that stirred a massive row with the Maulana coming under fire from all sides.

“I have not targeted any individual, nor used the term ‘Hindu’. I did not want to break anyone’s heart. It became an issue and I am sorry for it, I am ashamed of it. It should not have happened with a senior person like me,” Ajmal told reporters and said that his comments were “twisted”.
