Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that corruption in police will not be tolerated and the accused police officers will be put on reserve

In a major crackdown against corruption in Assam police, the Assam CID has registered criminal cases against seven police personnel for alleged taking bribes and indulging in corrupt practices.

As per inputs, the Assam Police Headquarters received a complaint in the first week of August against the accused personnel.

Assam DGP GP Singh informed that after receiving complaints against these officials, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption laid a trap to nab them, but the plan did not work as the accused police officials already had an escape route in place.

The DGP further stated that the complaint was found to be prima facie true, following which a criminal case was registered on August 31 under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code against Deputy SP Puskal Gogoi and six others, which include Patacharkuchi Police Station Officer in-Charge Anup Jyoti Patiri, SI Debajit Giri (Bhawanipur OP under Patacharkuchi PS), ASI Sasanka Das (Patacharkuchi PS), Injamamul Hassan, the Personal Security Officer of former Additional SP of Bajali, Gayatri Sonowal, and Home Guards Deepjoy Roy and Nabir Ahmed.

It may be mentioned that in the past too, Pushkal Gogoi was accused of getting a job at the APSC by fraudulent means.

All the accused police officers have reportedly been brought to Guwahati for interrogation.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma responding to the development, said that corruption in police will not be tolerated and the accused police officers will be put on reserve.

The CM added that the accused officials would be arrested if found guilty.
