The Gauhati High Court has rejected the bail plea of Yumken Bagra, the prime accused in the sexual assault and rape case involving 21 minors at a government school in Arunachal Pradesh’s Shi Yomi district.
Bagra was the warden of the Arunachal Pradesh Government Residential School.
The next hearing of the case has been scheduled for July 27. The accused is currently out on bail, granted by the special court in Yupia, Arunachal Pradesh.
The Gauhati High Court had taken suo moto cognizance of the case and held a hearing today.
Yumken Bagra, was the warden of the hostel from 2019 to 2022 in the residential school, when he was allegedly involved in the misdeeds.
The matter came to light when an FIR was lodged in November 2022 by the father of two girl children, stating that his daughters were sexually assaulted by the warden. The Monigong police registered the case and transferred it to the SIT of the vigilance department.
The accused was arrested after the two FIRs were lodged at the Tato Police Station in the Shi Yomi District back in November 2022. But a Yupia court had granted bail to Bagra.
The SIT investigation found that there were six cases of rape, nine cases of molestation, and six cases of sexual harassment. The case was then handed over to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by SP Rohit Rajbir Singh.
SP Singh had said that Bagra is accused of raping, molesting and sexually harassing boys and girls in the age group of 6 to 14 years.
