The COVID-19 death toll in the frontier state increased to 199, as two more persons succumbed to the infection on Friday, the official said.

A 70-year-old man from Leparada district died at the Dedicated Covid Health Centre (DCHC) in Basar due to acute respiratory distress syndrome with Covid Pneumonia, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

The other fatality was that of an 83 year-old-man from Lower Dibang Valley district, who died at his residence on Friday due to Covid Pneumonia, he said.

The Capital Complex Region recorded the highest number of fresh cases at 112, followed by Lohit (42), Lower Subansiri (36), Tawang (27), East Siang (26), Papumpare and West Siang with 23 cases each, Upper Subansiri (22), Changlang (18) and 14 each from Namsai and Anjaw, the official said.

Eleven cases were also reported from Lower Dibang Valley, ten each from Kra Daadi and Kamle, nine from East Kameng, eight each from Longding and West Kameng, seven each from Siang and Lower Siang, four from Upper Siang, three each from Kurung Kumey, Pakke Kessang and Shi-Yomi, two from Leparada and one from Tirap district, the SSO said.

Of the fresh cases, 394 were detected through rapid antigen tests, 28 through RT-PCR and 21 by TrueNat methods, the SSO said, adding that 204 people were symptomatic.

Arunachal Pradesh currently has 4,262 active COVID-19 cases, he said.

As many as 356 patients were cured of the disease on Friday taking the total number of recoveries in the state to 37,628, Jampa said.

The COVID-19 recovery rate in the state now is 89.40 per cent while the active percentage stands at 10.13 and the positivity rate at 8.10 per cent, the official said.

The Capital Complex Region – comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas – has the highest number of active cases at 1,022, followed by West Kameng (360), East Siang (340), Lohit (340), Papumpare (268) and Changlang (203).

Altogether, 8,49,465 samples have been tested for COVID-19 in the state so far, including 5,466 on Friday, Jampa said.

Meanwhile, State Immunisation Officer Dr Dimong Padung informed that a total of 7,65,913 people have been administered COVID-19 vaccine doses so far in the state since the inoculation drive began in January this year. PTI
