Huge cache of explosives and ammunitions recovered in Mizoram ahead of assembly polls

Ahead of the assembly elections in Mizoram, the State Police have recovered a huge cache of explosives and ammunitions from the border village of Lungbun in Siaha district of Southern Mizoram.

Acting on specific input about miscreants transporting warlike stores towards Myanmar through Lungbun crossing, 30th Assam Rifles along with Siaha Police jointly conducted an operation in and around the Lungbun area on Sunday.

During the search operation, the joint team stopped two unknown persons carrying some articles, and when they were asked to halt, the duo dropped their bags and fled towards Myanmar by crossing the river Kolodyne.

On checking the bags, the joint team recovered 100 gelatin sticks, 100 detonators, 150 rounds of AK-47 rifle ammunition, 10 metres of wire (codex) and 10 battery cells.

A case has been registered against the duo at Siaha Police Station under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code and under the Explosive Substances Act, 1908 for further investigation and legal action.
