26 Meghalaya students stranded in Sikkim reach home safe

At least 26 students of Meghalaya stranded in the deluge-hit Sikkim, reached Shillong safely on Saturday evening.
They were studying in Himalayan Pharmacy Institute and Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology at Majitar, East Sikkim.
Meghalaya Govt had pressed its resources into action soon after the devastating flash floods in Sikkim.
In an official statement on Saturday, the Meghalaya government said that the students got stranded in Majitar in Sikkim amid the raging flash flood.
“These 26 students left Majitar for Siliguri in five vehicles and reached there on Friday night. A bus was arranged for them from Siliguri to Shillong,” the statement added.
Taking to X (Formerly known as Twitter), Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma wrote, “Happy to see the 26 students from Meghalaya studying in Sikkim safely reach Shillong this evening. Job well done by our officials.”
The students also lauded the government’s hospitality and their swift response in helping them to reach the state safely.
In view of the natural calamity in Sikkim, the Government of Meghalaya has activated helpline number 1800-345-3644 for its residents who may require assistance due to the natural calamity.
“Students and residents of the State can call the helpline number 1800-345-3644 for assistance they may need related to the above-mentioned calamity,” official statement said.
“Further, in case of emergency students can contact A Ali, Additional Director of Higher and Technical Education, Govt of Meghalaya Contact no: 98630 63305 and F B Ramsiej, Deputy Director Higher and Technical Education, Government of Meghalaya Contact No: 7005037347 for coordination and redressal of issues,” official statement added.
