Is former Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma contemplating floating his own political party?

A statement by the TMC leader has raised speculation that the veteran politician from the state might launch his own party.

Speaking to Northeast Live, Mukul Sangma said that there is no such party in the state that can create a sense of oneness and inclusiveness and ensure the all-round development of Meghalaya.

The former Chief Minister said he is more concerned about Meghalaya and its people, and therefore there is a need to create a sense of oneness, which none of the political parties in the state have achieved so far.

“I’m concerned about my state of Meghalaya. If Meghalaya can be a state where everyone has a sense of wellbeing, we need to create that sense of oneness in Meghalaya. How do we do it? Is there any party capable of creating this oneness? I’m afraid I’m not seeing it. So there’s a big challenge before us,” Mukul Sangma said.

“Everybody should have that sense of hope where they see that the future is going to be better. When this can happen, I think we will be on the right path. But at the moment, this is not happening, so we will have to make it happen,” Mukul Sangma added

The sources within TMC also indicated the possibility of the emergence of a new political party.

Meanwhile, the recent claim made by State BJP President Ernest Mawrie that Dr. Mukul has been denied entry into the BJP by the senior leaders in Delhi has been rubbished by the former CM.

Keeping his cards close to his chest, Dr. Sangma denied meeting any BJP leadership, as the former Chief Minister alleged that BJP politics revolves around his name.

Stating that quite a lot has been said about him joining the BJP without confirmation from the horse’s mouth, the former Chief Minister quipped that he chooses to ignore all such comments.

Further, Mukul Sangma said that he is currently studying the whole political dynamics of the state. He feels that it is necessary to keep in mind the outcome of the electoral process in the recently concluded 2023 Assembly polls.
