Assam: Veteran actor Dilip Kumar Hazarika no more

Senior advocate of Gauhati High Court and veteran actor Dilip Kumar Hazarika passed away. He was 92.

Hazarika breathed his last at his residence in Ujan Bazar area of ​​Guwahati on Thursday evening.

As per reports, the eminent cine artist is survived by his son and daughter.

The actor was born in Sivasagar district of Assam.

Hazarika starred in a few Assamese movies, including Maniram Dewan (1964). He played Piyali Barua in the historic Assamese film “Maniram Dewan,” which featured Dr. Bhupen Hazarika-composed song “Buku Hom Hom Kare..”

The veteran actor was also associated with various democratic movements in Assam.

In the 1990s, Hazarika
wrote several articles on cinema, culture and politics for the Assamese dailies–Aji, Natun Samay and Asomiya Pratidin. His writings were known for their clarity, insight and wit.

Saddened by the news of the death of Hazarika, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul of Hazarika and conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families.

” I am saddened by the news of the passing away of noted actor, writer and advocate Dilip Kumar Hazarika. The demise of this versatile genius, who has achieved remarkable fame for his outstanding performance in many Assamese films including ‘Maniram Dewan’, is a great loss to the socio-cultural sector of Assam. I pray for eternal peace of the departed soul of Hazarika And convey my deepest condolences to the bereaved families,” CM Sarma wrote on X.
