Arunachal: Slow Loris rescued, released back to the forest in Pasighat

The release operation was conducted near 21 Mile in Pasighat RF, led by Neeraj Tamuk, Range Forest Officer (RFO), along with Tabang Gaduk, Beat Officer, and other staff members.

A resident of Pasighat rescued a Slow Loris and handed it over to the Range Office of Pasighat Forest Division.

The primate was rescued after it was spotted roaming near the person’s house yesterday.

The release operation was conducted near 21 Mile in Pasighat RF, led by Neeraj Tamuk, Range Forest Officer (RFO), along with Tabang Gaduk, Beat Officer, and other staff members.

Neeraj Tamuk is known for his act of rescuing captive elephant calf. Tamuk expressed gratitude towards the person for rescuing and handing over the primate to the forest department.

Tamuk informed that the Slow Loris species comes under schedule-I animals of Wildlife Protection Act 1972 and is listed as either ‘vulnerable’ or ‘endangered’ on the International Union of Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List.

All Slow Lorises are threatened by the wildlife trade and habitat loss.

Tamuk expressed concern over illegal mass tree felling and habitat loss in Pasighat RF and assured to crackdown on such activities and completely put a stop to such activities in the forest range.

Dr. Hano Moda, Divisional Forest Officer of Pasighat Forest Division, praised the rescuer’s effort, and handing over of the primate to the forest department. The DFO also applauded the act of kindness and encouraged more contributions to wild heritage preservation.
