With a forest cover of 65,882 sq km, Arunachal stands second after Madhya Pradesh

In a proud moment for Arunachal Pradesh, the India State of Forest Report 2023 (ISFR 2023) has placed the state among the top three in the country for the largest forest and tree cover. With a forest cover of 65,882 sq km, Arunachal stands second after Madhya Pradesh, which leads with 77,073 sq km, while Maharashtra secures the third position.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed his delight on X, congratulating the Forest Department and stakeholders for their collective efforts in preserving and expanding forest and tree cover. He highlighted the importance of forests in maintaining ecological balance, supporting biodiversity, and mitigating climate change.

“Forests act as natural air purifiers by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. They protect soil from erosion, regulate water cycles, and provide habitats for countless species, while also offering resources like wood, fruits, and medicinal plants,” said the Chief Minister in his X post.

Acknowledging the critical role of forests in sustainable development, Pema Khandu urged citizens to continue their efforts toward environmental conservation to ensure a healthier planet for future generations.

“By going green, we protect soil from erosion, regulate water cycles, and support biodiversity by providing habitat for countless species. In return, we get resources like wood, fruits, and medicinal plants along with huge recreational benefits. I urge all to continue doing your best to ensure a healthy environment and sustainable development for future generations,” CM Pema Khandu wrote on X.
