ALSU chairman Gyamar Maya said that APUAPA is a draconian Act to suppress the voice of the people who speak against the government.

Arunachal Law Student’s Union (ALSU) staged a peaceful rally against the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (APUAPA) in Itanagar today.

ALSU chairman Gyamar Maya said that APUAPA is a draconian law to suppress the voice of the people who speak against the government.

While speaking to the media, Maya said, “We appeal to the state government to repeal the Act, which is an authoritarian law. The motive of the rally is to make the citizens of the state aware and they must understand about this Act. We want to instill in the minds of the people that this law can be misused’, Maya added.

He further added, “We realised that we do not require this Act. We have written to the CM and the 60 MLAs, and we are encouraging people to write to their representatives as well.”

Earlier, Itanagar Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom had approved the request from Phassang Kassung, the President of ALSU, to hold a rally today.

The call for repeal gained momentum when 44 individuals, including one juvenile, were detained for more than 20 days. Presently, 26 people are still in custody. They were apprehended for their involvement in a 72-hour protest.

This rally has been organized as a part of their ongoing campaign against the law, aiming to draw attention to their concerns.
