In an effort to uplift the education sector in East Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya, a unique program called Project ‘Ka Lawei’ has been introduced that will adopt digital tools to encourage fast and innovative learning among the students of today’s generation.

The project is an initiative by the Deputy Commission of East Jaintia Hills, Abhilash Baranwal and Jonathan Shylla, Addl. Deputy Commissioner.

Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam A. Sagma, appreciating the initiative of the Deputy Commission, said that East Jaintia Hills will be the first district in the state where this program is implemented.

Sangma shared that the initiative has already received support from students, teachers, and parents.
Under the project, about 50 schools have been provided with smart TVs, Sangma added.

Sharing an example of the success of the project, Sangma said, “I have been told there was a particular school that had poor performance in the higher secondary school. But after the introduction of such classes, they secured 100 percent. It’s really inspiring and encouraging. It was a good initiative on the part of the commissioner and the education department of the district.”

Under the program, a Comprehensive Bridge Course has been designed for each school based on the academic plans and performance of the school.

Sangma noted that the ‘Ka Lawei’ project is an innovative step to meet the demands of today’s generation.
