Ranger Paneswar Das has been arrested in Assam’s Golaghat district. Along with Das, ten other personnel from the forest department of Golaghat have also been arrested.
The arrested have been charged with letting illegal sand mining rackets flourish in forest areas. Among the ten arrested, Abdul Millu and Mulul Ali Hazarika have been arrested earlier.
Seven persons associated with the scam are still absconding. The absconding forest personnel are Rajib Kumar Das, Prafulla Chandra Lahkar, Jitendra Nath Dutta, Umesh Chandra Dutta, Gautam Upadhyay, Mintu Saikia and Abdul Ismat.
