BJP’s ally in Tripura, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura, has decided to contest the next Lok Sabha elections all by itself. The announcement was made by the party during a press conference at Agartala yesterday.
IPFT assistant general secretary Mangal Debbarma said that the decision was taken in consultation with the party’s units and various associate organisations. Debbarma claimed that the decision was taken because the BJP has been making plans for next year’s Lok Sabha polls without taking the IPFT into confidence.
The IPFT, meanwhile, has welcomed the CBI probe into the murder case of journalist Shantanu Bhowmick and demanded that exemplary punishment be given to the culprits.
Debbarma stated here that care should be taken, not to harrass the general public in the name of investigation. Bhowmick was allegedly killed by IPFT activists last year while covering protests demanding for a separate state out of Tripura.
