People from various walks of life especially women took to the streets of Meghalaya capital Shillong to register a strong protest against the incident where women were paraded naked in violence affected Manipur.
Eminent journalist and The Shillong Times Editor, Patricia Mukhim was also seen expressing solidarity with the victims of the Manipur unrest.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Patricia Mukhim said, “We are here in solidarity with what is happening in Manipur, especially to the women who have been stripped naked and one of them was raped and there are many more. Now it is slowly coming out.”
While appealing everyone to maintain peace and calm, Patricia Mukhim shared her thoughts and said, “We dont want this culture of violence. We want a culture of peace and co-existence. This Earth is for everyone of us, it is not for any single person. We have to end this culture of ethno centricism where you feel that one group is superior to the other. It’s nothing like that, we are all humans of the same Earth and we should remember that.”
Social activist and KAM leader, Angela Rangad also took part in the protest. She alleged that there is a total breakdown of law and order in Manipur. Rangad blamed the government for the escalation in the state.
