Chief of Delhi Commission for Women Swati Maliwal reached violence affected Manipur this afternoon amid reports of the N Biren Singh government advising her to visit the state later owing to the prevailing law and order situation.
Soon after landing at the Imphal Airport, Swati Maliwal informed that at first she will be meeting Chief Minister N Biren Singh. She said, “The Chief Minister himself had said that hundreds of sexual assault cases have reportedly occured. I want to meet the sexual abuse survivors and see if they have got legal aid, counselling or any compensation, are they safe or are they being intimidated.”
DCW Chief Swati Maliwal appealed Chief Minister N Biren Singh to allow her to meet the victims (of sexual assault) in the relief camps.
Besides, Maliwal also requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the strife torn state.
She said,”I am not here to do politics, I am here to serve the people. I know that there is a threat to my life but still I have come. I appeal everyone especially the Prime Minister and Union minister of Women and Child Development minister to visit Manipur. The state is burning for the past 3 months, people are suffering a lot. Soon after my arrival I was informed that there has been a lot of violence.”
The DCW chief further said that she is also expecting a meeting with Governor Anusuiya Uikey.
On Saturday, DCW chief Swati Maliwal had alleged that the Manipur government had denied her permission to visit the state after initially allowing her to visit the state.
In a tweet, she called the decision ‘shocking and absurd’, while also questioning the reason behind it.
