CM N Biren Singh said, that already the first arrest was made this morning
After massive outpour of outrage and disgust, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, reacting to the viral video of two women stripped and paraded in Manipur, termed the video as ‘distressing’ and the incident ‘deeply disrespectful and inhumane’.
In a tweet just a few minutes ago and after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Supreme Court took cognisance of the video and demanded action, CM N Biren Singh said, that already the first arrest was made this morning. The CM also said that capital punishment too would be considered to punish the culprits.
The CM’s tweet read, “My hearts go out to the two women who were subjected to a deeply disrespectful and inhumane act, as shown in the distressing video that surfaced yesterday. After taking a Suo-moto cognisance of the incident immediately after the video surfaced, the Manipur Police swung to action and made the first arrest this morning.
A thorough investigation is currently underway and we will ensure strict action is taken against all the perpetrators, including considering the possibility of capital punishment. Let it be known, there is absolutely no place for such heinous acts in our society.”
Earlier this morning, reacting to the horrific video, PM Modi said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi says, “…I assure the nation, no guilty will be spared. Law will take its course with all its might. What happened with the daughters of Manipur can never be forgiven.”
Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud said that the whole incident is unacceptable. “Using women as an instrument in an area of communal strife. It’s the grossest of constitutional abuse. We are deeply disturbed by the videos which have emerged. If the government does not act we will”, the CJI said.
Supreme Court says it’s time government really steps in and takes action. It’s simply unacceptable in constitutional democracy. It’s deeply disturbing.
