The MPP held Congress responsible for Manipur’s current situation and accused the party of using illegal migrants from Burma and Bangladesh as vote banks

The Manipur Patriotic Party (MPP) has opposed Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi’s proposed two-day visit to violence-hit Manipur starting tomorrow. The MPP held the Congress party responsible for Manipur’s present situation and said that the former Congress President’s visit to the state is nothing less than fishing in troubled water.

“We are strongly convinced that his visit is to fish in troubled waters as we have pointed out in an open letter that the present crisis in Manipur is the creation of the Indian National Congress. We have pointed out in the open letter that the present crisis and sufferings faced by the people of Manipur today is because of the continuation of the British policy of Meitei Containment by INC since independence. We have also pointed out that in 1949, Manipur was merged with the then Dominion of India in the most undemocratic fashion by the then Indian National Congress (INC) Government at centre under Jawaharlal Nehru, grandfather of Shri Rahul Gandhi ji, without even giving a chance to then than existing democratically elected government/legislative assembly either to reject or accept the merger. And everybody is aware that this is root cause of insurgency/revolutionary/national liberation movement in Manipur,” the MPP said in a press release issued today.

Earlier, in an open letter to Rahul Gandhi, the MPP cited the reason for the Manipur crisis as the continuation of the British policy of Meitei Containment by the Congress.
“The present crisis and sufferings faced by the people of Manipur today is because of the continuation of British policy of Meitei Containment by INC since independence,” the MPP wrote in the letter.
“We have also pointed out that in 1949, Manipur was merged to the then Dominion of India in the most undemocratic fashion by the then Indian National Congress (INC) Government at centre under Jawaharlal Nehru, grandfather of Shri Rahul Gandhi ji, without even giving a chance to then then existing democratically elected government/legislative assembly either to reject or accept the merger,” the Manipur Patriotic Party further wrote in the open letter to Gandhi.
The Manipur Patriotic Party further accused the Congress of using illegal migrants from Burma and Bangladesh for vote banks.
“We have also pointed out that successive INC governments at Centre and Manipur has followed the policy of encouraging illegal migrants from Burma (Presently Myanmar) and East Pakistan (Presently Bangladesh) and converting them as their vote banks to capture political power,” the letter to Rahul Gandhi read.
Furthermore, the Manipur Patriotic Party held the Congress responsible for laying the foundation for the demand for “Kukiland” in Manipur.
“The INC is also responsible for the laying foundation for the demand of “Kukiland” through creation of Kangpokpi District,” the letter read.
Lastly, the Manipur Patriotic Party held the congress responsible for played with the lives of the people to win the elections in the state.
“The root cause of the present crisis in Manipur is the making of the Congress party. Your party has played with the lives of the people in your ambition to win elections and isolate the Meiteis as a part of your vote bank politics and Meitei containment policy, respectively. Now the Meiteis have become refugees in their own homes. Your party is morally responsible for allowing the Kuki militants to give a cry for an “ancestral land” in Manipur and drive out the Meiteis from Kuki-dominated areas. So sir, can we conclude that the Congress party is anti-Meitei and anti-Naga?,” the open letter read.
