Manipur unrest: Another Godown of Minister L Susindro Meitei burnt down

Manipur continues to burn. There is total lawlessness in the strife-torn state.

Late last night, the state Food and Civil Supplies minister L Susindro Meitei was targetted yet again after miscreants, believed to be armed, burnt down another of his property near his godowns that were set ablaze on Friday. The incident took place at Chingarel in Imphal East district.

The police did fire tear gas shells but could not prevent the godown belonging to the Minister from being set ablaze.

On Saturday, FIRs were lodged with the local police on behalf of the Minister, but lodging FIRs in Manipur has become a mere formality in view of the prevailing situation. What action has been initiated by the police is not known.

It is becoming increasingly clear that the Imphal Valley has become chaotic as far as the law and order is concerned with mobs and miscreants, burning down private homes and property of ruling BJP leaders.

On Saturday, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said the attacks on his party leaders were politically instigated but the Chief Minister would not elaborate.

With no official, including the centrally appointed Security Adviser Kuldiep Singh and the new DGP Rajiv Singh talking about the security situation, unconfirmed and exaggerated reports are doing the rounds and posts on social media are passed off as credible news.

Late Saturday night, after his fifth property was set ablaze, aides of Minister Sushindro said the minister was fearing for his life.

The lawlessness in the Imphal Valley, sources said, is making the case of those asking for President’s Rule in Manipur even more stronger.

On June 23, Minister L Susindro Meitei’s private godown at Ishirou in Imphal East was burnt down by an irate mob.

The mob also set 2 mini trucks on fire which were parked at the godown complex.

The mob reportedly also tried to torch the residence of Khurai MLA and minister L Susindro Meitei. Security forces rushed to the spot and diffused the situation. However, no loss of human life or injury was reported in the incident.

On the same day, a BJP party office was also torched near the Sajiwa Jail.

Last night’s incident was the 11th such incident when a minister or an MLA was targetted.

On June 16, an angry mob tried to attack to vandalise state BJP President Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi’s residence near Porampet in Imphal.

On June 14, the residence of Minister Nemcha Kipgen in Imphal was burnt down by miscreants. The incident took place at Lamphel locality of Imphal.

On June 8, two bike-borne miscreants hurled a low-intensity Improvised explosive device (IED) at the gate of the Naoriya Pakhanglakpa BJP MLA Soraisam Kebi in Imphal East.

On June 4, miscreants burnt down the house of Congress MLA R K Ranjit in Sugnu, under Kakching district of Manipur.

On May 28, the house of BJP MLA Kh Raghumani Singh at Lamphel in Imphal West district was vandalised. He is the Uripok MLA.

On May 25, the residence of Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education RK Ranjan Singh was attacked and vandalized. Alert personnel of the Manipur Police and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) had swung into action to bring the situation under control.
On the same night, in a second incident, an angry mob tried to attack the residence of Manipur Minister Th Biswajit Singh. However, security forces managed to stop the mob much before they could reach the Minister’s residence.

On May 24, an irate mob had vandalized Manipur’s Public Works Department, Youth Affairs & Sports Minister and Bishnupur MLA, Govindas Konthoujam’s residence.

Earlier, on May 4 Vungzagin Valte, a BJP MLA, was attacked by a mob in Imphal while he was returning from the state secretariat after a meeting with Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

Earlier in the week, an IED was kept inside an SUV which was parked over a culvert between Kwakta Ward Number 7 and Phou-gak-Chao in South of Kwakta in Bishnupur district blast, leaving an eight-year-old boy and two teenagers seriously injured.

Firing incidents were reported from Kangpokpi and Imphal East districts.

Another firing took place towards N Boljang village which is South of Kangchup. Assam Rifles retaliated and brought the situation under control.
