Young Climate activist of Manipur Licypriya Kangujam questions PM Modi’s silence on current unrest in state

She siad that PM Modi has failed to address the people to stay calm and appeal for peace in the state

Saddened and disturbed by the continuous unrest going on in Manipur for over a month, which seems not to end soon, 12-year-old Climate and Environmental activist Licypriya Kangujam today questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence over the ongoing violence and slammed the Prime Minister for ignoring Manipur in this difficult time.

The young activist questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi as to why he had failed to visit Manipur during this difficult period for the state’s people, despite the fact that it just takes 2 hours to reach Manipur by flight from Delhi.

She stated that the Prime Minister has failed to address the people to stay calm and appeal for peace in the state.

“Despite Manipur being just 2 hours by flight from Delhi, you failed to visit Manipur during this tough time of the people. You failed to address the people to stay calm and appeal for peace. Even you failed to make a single tweet,” she tweeted.

“Despite posing yourself as a powerful world leader, you even can’t lift the economic blockade called by few Kukis groups on National Highway No. 2 – the lifeline of Manipur. We’re really very sad to your inaction and ignorance towards Manipur in this difficult time, she added.

Activist Licypriya Kangujam today submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to “Stop divisive policies and to bring peace and normalcy as soon as possible in Manipur.”

The activist asked a few questions to PM Modi and sought answers from him.

The questions are:

1.How long are you going to stay silent and watch killing of two communities in Manipur since 3rd May?

2.How many innocent children are left to burn alive?

3.How many innocent men and women are left to be beheaded?

4.How many innocent people to put guns in hands to kill each other?

5.How many houses are left to burn in Manipur?

6.How long are you going to oppress people’s voice by banning internet?

Adding that a single inch of Manipur’s integrity can not be compromised on any ground, she said, “Please try to regain the trust from the people of Manipur. Your action will decide our future.”

Manipur has been on the boil since violent clashes broke between two communities in the state on May 3, 2023.

Internet service is also suspended in the state since since then to prevent any untoward incident.

Over 120 people have died and at least 45,000 people uprooted in the violence that has rocked the state since May 3. at least 60,000 security forces have been deployed in the state.
