In news just coming in, one person was shot dead and two injured in an incident of firing this morning along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. The firing incident has been reported from Dhemaji district of Assam. The district is along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. According to initial reports, miscreants from Arunachal Pradesh came in and opened fired on the three people on the Assam side who were planting trees and saplings.
The dead person has been identified as Boga Chutia. The injured have been identified as Pushpa Gogoi and Montu Gogoi.
More details about who were the people who opened fired and why they fired on the people are awaited.

Reacting to the incident, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Assam is yet to properly demarcate the border along Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in Dhemaji, “neighbouring state does not attack us. But some people of neighbouring states greedy to occupy land do at times get involved in such activities. Police will investigate the matter and appropriate action will be taken. Dhemaji SP and DC will look into the matter,” the Chief Minister said.

In April this year, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh signed an agreement to settle their decades-old border dispute relating to 123 villages spread along the 800-km-long inter-state border. Assam and Arunachal Pradesh share an 804 km long boundary. The MoU was signed by Assam CM Sarma and his Arunachal Pradesh counterpart Pema Khandu in front of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in new Delhi.

“We are a part of a historic moment in Indian history. Since 1972, this border dispute hasn’t been solved. The local commission’s report was continually considered contentious by different governments and courts. That report has been accepted by both the state governments and the 800-km long border issue has been ended by them today,” Union HM Shah had said after the signing of the agreement.
