Amid the unrest in Manipur, thousands of people took to the streets of Manipur’s Kakching district on Saturday, demanding immediate restoration of peace and normalcy in the state.

Over 30,000 protestors holding placards, under the banner of the District Level Committee for Rejuvenating Co-existence, carried out a peaceful rally from Kakching Sumak Leikai to the DC office and submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of Kakching district.

Meanwhile, another group of marchers with similar demands also reached the DC office.

While the participants of the rally are demanding the restoration of peace and normalcy, they made it clear that there will be no peace in Manipur until the Suspension of Operation (SoO) with Kuki militants is revoked.

In the memorandum, the people enlisted a 10-point charter of demands including immediate abrogation of the SoO with Kuki militants, detection and deportation of illegal immigrants from Manipur, inquiry by a high-level fact-finding team into the violence in Manipur, non-consideration of the demand for separate administration, protection and preservation of Manipur’s territorial integrity at all costs, NRC implementation, restoration of peace and rejuvenation of co-existence, and proper settlement for displaced people, among others.
