Arunachal: Jail term of people arrested during Itanagar bandh extended to 30 days

The jail term of all the 44 people arrested during the 3-day Itanagar Bandh in Arunachal Pradesh from May 10-12 have been extended up to 30 (thirty) days from the date of their arrests, told Itanagar DC Talo Potom to Northeast Live.

It may be mentioned here that the arrested people were supposed to be released on May 21 after the completion of their 12-day judicial custody, however, they will now have to serve another 18-day jail term, he said.

Activist Sol Dodum, Tana Tamar Tara, Aam Admi Party worker, Taw Pail, Chairman of Pro Dam Movement, 4 social influencers – Nabam Sanjay, Yowa Bosco, Viral Rabha, Yowa Topu are among others arrested by police from across the state during the bandh to prevent any untoward incident.

DC Talo Potom said that the situation is not completely normal, they are still getting bandh call threats from some sections of groups and individuals, and following that the decision has been taken by the government.

He further said that the district administration is receiving many appeals from the families of the arrestees for their release. These appeals would be submitted to the concerned authority and after reviewing all reports, they will decide whether to release the arrested people or to further extend their jail term, said DC Talo Potom.

It may be mentioned here that the 3-day bandh was called by certain individual groups on social media platforms against the APPSC question paper leak case.
