Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor, agriculture emphasised the significance of agriculture in the state and said that it contributes to over 70% of the state's economic activity.

Nagaland has dispatched its first batch of organic ginger from Dimapur to Odisha on Saturday.

Mhathung Yanthan, advisor in the Agriculture Department, flagged off the first consignment of 10 metric tonnes of organic ginger from Dimapur.

The organic ginger is delivered to Aisha Traders in Odisha under the Mission of Organic Value Chain Development (MOVCD) for North East Region Phase III with the support of the Department of Agriculture and Government of Nagaland and COLKS (Centre of Learning, Knowledge, and Services) as a service provider.

On the flagging-off programme, Yanthan said that it marks a significant milestone in promoting sustainable agriculture in the state.

Yanthan also emphasised the significance of agriculture in the state and said that it contributes to over 70% of the state’s economic activity, adding that it can be achieved by providing the necessary market facilities and links to buyers from outside.

He added that Nagas needed to emphasise the need to identify market demands and forge strong links with buyers from outside the region.

Yanthan highlighted the need to educate farmers about organic products and discourage chemical-based products.

“As 13,000 hectares of agricultural land have been certified under the organic category, the potential is immense,” he said.

Additionally, he advised the Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and Farmer Producer Companies (FPC) to use social media sites like eNAM, Instagram, and Facebook to promote and advertise their goods because they would allow for direct communication between farmers and consumers.
