Central Coordination Committee (CCC), the second highest decision making body of the Young Mizo Association (YMA) on Wednesday reiterated its appeal to the Mizoram government to lodge all the Myanmar refugees in relief camps.

The meeting of the CCC, held in Aizawl, said that allowing the refugees to scatter in every place across the state would create more and more problems for the state and the inhabitants.

“We are appealing again to the state government to establish improved relief camps for the refugees from Myanmar and to lodge all of them so that they would not scatter everywhere,” the resolution said.

The state sheltered over 31,000 refugees from Myanmar, who fled that country since the military coup d’etat on February 1, 2021 and the YMA members have been the main civil society to provide humanitarian relief to the refugees since then.

The CCC of the YMA also re-affirmed its commitment to combat corruption in the state as was resolved in the conference held on October 27, 2022 and formed a committee to pursue this resolution.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the YMA lauded the convictions and punishment of corrupted people by the Special Court (Prevention of Corruption) in Aizawl.

“The YMA would continue to support the special court and the special judge in their endeavor to work for the betterment of the state and the society,” the statement said.

YMA members were also asked to treat corrupted people and those who are living their lifestyles with disproportionate assets compared to their known sources of income.

The CCC meeting urged all the people of the state to combat corruption in all places and regard it as a clarion call to phase out the ills of the society which has been eating away the very fabric of the Mizo society.
