Dr. Rupam Sharma, first Assamese to be appointed senior advisor US President Joe Biden

Dr. Rupam Sharma who hails from Jorhat, Assam but lives in Sacramento, California, has been appointed as a White House Presidential Innovation Fellow (PIF) and a Senior Advisor Advisor to President’s new Health Research Agency (ARPA-H). He is the first Assamese to get appointed to this position.
He has been appointed to the research team to help build the nation and impact the world through health innovation. Rupam took the oath on April 10 and will be attending the White House Welcome event on Apr 14.
Rupam will be joining the “Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health under the National Institutes of Health (NIH),” as a Presidential Senior Advisor, the federal agency created by President Biden with his vision to find cures for cancer, Alzheimer, Diabetes, and other diseases.
In an interview, Rupam said, ” All of my work, whether creative arts or engineering, includes one common thread – a humane touch to do good to others and to serve humanity. This is a perfect opportunity with the values and philosophy I have lived by every day all my life. It’s time to explore some unparalleled ideas for an optimistic future through health research.”
Rupam hails from Charigaon, Jorhat. He moved to the US after completing his Engineering degree from Jorhat Engineering College. He completed Master’s in Computer Science, Master’s in Management, and Doctorate from George Washington University, researching Artificial Intelligence and Autism.
He is presently working as a CIO of California.
Rupam likes to compose music and produce films for social impact and he is also a Guinness record holder in Music. Besides, Sharma is also an internationally awarded music director, filmmaker, singer, sound engineer.
He worked as an artist on the Billboard World Music chart, and other notable award-winning projects such as One Little Finger feature film which made history with a cast of over 80 children with disabilities.
Rupam recently served as Chief Technology Officer for California’s agency to build transformative healthcare solutions.
Rupam is the founder of One Little Finger Global Foundation, helping persons with disabilities, underprivileged children, and communities around the world through media, education, and scientific research.
