25 biotech startups from Northeast region to get grant upto Rs 50 lakh each

Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council of the Department of Biotechnology, rolled out the special call on Biotechnology Ignition Grant exclusively for the Northeast region of India
In a major boost towards creating the enabling startup ecosystem and building the vibrancy in the Biotech and life science-based startup ecosystem in the Northeast region, at least 25 biotech and life science-based startups from the region will be getting a grant of upto Rs 50 lakh each.
Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) of the Department of Biotechnology, Govt of India rolled out the special call on Biotechnology Ignition Grant (BIG) exclusively for the Northeast region of India.
This is being implemented by BIRAC regional Centre-BRTC established at KIIT Technology Business Incubator, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar.
Speaking to Northeast Live, CEO of KIIT-TBI Dr Mrutyunjay Suar disclosed that the special call has attracted 185 applications from the NE region.
75 innovative start-ups of NE are pitching to the Jury panel (consisting of experts across India from academia, research organizations, industries & investors). From this, 25 innovative startups will be selected for the grant, he said.
He also announced that the 25 innovative startups that will be getting the grants will likely be announced in April first week.
Meanwhile, focussing on the G20 program, Digital Innovation Alliance launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the government of India, a sensitisation programme was held at the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) Manipur.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) launched G20 Digital Innovation Alliance (G20-DIA) to recognize and support innovators that have digital solutions for various world economies.
Startups from G20 nations along with 9 guest countries will participate in this global program. A total of 174 startups will be supported under this program from around the world at the Grand Summit in Bangalore in August 2023.
Programme Director Of MeitY StartUp Hub, Omkar Nath Suprabhat Rath said that the event is a roadshow for the mega summit and to attract and invite aspiring and budding potential startups in the field of digital technology.
He added that the mega summit to be held later in August will also explore market connections among the G20 countries and 9 other guest nations.
