A formal announcement of Singh’s appointment is yet to be made.
In a significant administrative move, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the repatriation of Prashant Kumar Singh, a 1993-batch IAS officer of the Manipur cadre, to his parent cadre.
This suggest that Singh, who was serving as Secretary in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MoNRE) will likely be the new Chief Secretary of Manipur as Vineet Joshi, a 1992-batch IAS officer has been appointed as Secretary of the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, resulting in a vacancy for the Chief Secretary post in Manipur.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) in an official order said: “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the repatriation of Shri Prashant Kumar Singh, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, to his parent cadre on the request of the Government of Manipur.”
A formal announcement of Singh’s appointment is yet to be made.
Meanwhile, Vineet Joshi also is yet to officially relinquish his duties as Chief Secretary, pending the finalisation of his successor.
Prior to his tenure at MoNRE, Prashant Kumar Singh served in several key positions, notably as the Chief Executive Officer of the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), a flagship initiative under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry aimed at streamlining public procurement.
An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, Singh holds a degree in Electrical Engineering and a master’s degree in Public Policy and Sustainable Development from TERI University, New Delhi.
His vast experience and strategic insight are expected to play a key role in navigating the complex challenges facing the state.
