The announcement follows the successful implementation of a similar initiative in Rabdang village in the Singtam-Khamdong constituency.
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has announced that Dzongu constituency in Sikkim will soon be transformed into a free Wi-Fi zone, marking a major step towards boosting digital connectivity in the region.
Speaking at the Namprikdang Namsoong Festival in Upper Dzongu, the Chief Minister highlighted the government’s efforts to enhance internet access across the state, ensuring benefits for both residents and visitors. “This initiative reflects our commitment to fostering progress and providing equal opportunities for all,” he said.
The announcement follows the successful implementation of a similar initiative in Rabdang village in the Singtam-Khamdong constituency, where free Wi-Fi was introduced under the leadership of Minister NB Dahal.
CM Tamang also urged the people to work collectively for Sikkim’s development, highlighting the importance of preserving cultural heritage alongside modern advancements. “Preserving our cultural legacy is a shared privilege. Let us unite to celebrate and protect the traditions that define us, while embracing the tools of progress that will lead us into the future,” he stated.
The free Wi-Fi initiative in Dzongu is part of the state government’s larger vision to bridge the digital divide, especially in rural areas, while supporting the region’s cultural and economic growth.
