Nagaland: Neihpiu Rio elected as Leader of UDA; set for 5th term as CM

Rio will hold the office of Chief Minister for the record 5th time, while Patton will become the deputy Chief Minister for the record 2nd term
Neiphiu Rio is all set to be sworn in for his record 5th term as the Chief Minister of Nagaland. In a joint meeting of the newly elected NDPP and BJP legislators Neiphiu Rio was elected as the leader of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). Rio will be sworn in as the Chief Minister tomorrow.
Meanwhile, putting all speculations to rest, Y Patton has been elected as the deputy chief minister for another term. He has also been elected as the BJP Legislature Party leader thus paving his way to retain the post of deputy chief minister for the 2nd consecutive time.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, BJP national spokesperson and Nagaland In-Charge Nalin Kohli said, “Finally, the party unanimously decided to elect Y Patton as the leader of the Legislature Party.”
Kohli added that Y Patton’s name was proposed by Nagaland BJP president Temjen Imna Along. He said, “Temjen Imna Along as a president had proposed Patton’s name and 2 other very senior legislators and incumbent ministers Zacob Zhimomi and S Paiwang Konyak seconded the name.
Subsequent to this, the BJP legislature discussed and submitted a letter of support to NDPP.
NDPP leader Neiphiu Rio led his party along with the alliance partner BJP to a thumping victory in the recently concluded Assembly elections, winning 37 of the 60 seats. NDPP won 25 seats and BJP 12.
