In a shocking incident a Myanmar nationalist allegedly shot his former wife in Mizoram’s border town of Champhai district on Wednesday evening, police said on Thursday.

The accused identified as Bawi Ro Piang entered the house of his former wife Siang Ngun Par (46) at around 6.45 pm and shot her in the presence of one of their 3 sons even as Par’s mother was trying to hide her daughter behind her back.

According to reports, Piang shot his ex-wife at point blank range with a single-shot shotgun before fleeing through the window.

He also stole a vehicle that was found abandoned at the Indo-Myanmar border trade centre village of Zokhawthar.

Police officers who launched an investigation into the alleged murderer suspected he had crossed the international border and entered Chin State.

Though the suspect’s native village in Chin State is unknown, the victim was born in Tlangkawi village in Chin State, Myanmar.

Sources said that Piang was working as a driver in Champhai district. The accused was earlier arrested for heroin trafficking, and had attempted to murder his former wife during the past year.
