Nagaland Polls: NEDA Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma & NDPP leadership holds crucial meeting on strategies

The all important meeting was held at the Niathu Resort in Chumoukedima this morning.


Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio led NDPP and it’s partner BJP are chalking out strategies to ensure that the coalition retains power in the Christian dominated state.

In fact top leaders of both the parties including NEDA convenor and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Nagaland deputy chief minister and BJP leader Y Patton and Nagaland BJP President Temjen Imna Along held a crucial closed door meeting to decide the future course of action.

The all important meeting was held at the Niathu Resort in Chumoukedima this morning.

When asked about the agenda of the meeting Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said, “No no there is no agenda. campaigning is on so we have to take strategies. And we had a joint meeting.”

Besides, Rio also exuded confidence that the NDPP-BJP will get a majority in the ensuing elections. Rio said, “We are hopeful of an absolute majority But I am not in a position to tell You the figure.”

The Nagaland Chief Minister also insisted that in some constituencies both the party will be campaigning jointly.

It may be mentioned that both the NDPP and BJP had agreed on seat sharing formula in the ration of 40:20 in a meeting between leaders of NDPP and the BJP central leadership the parties including Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in New Delhi.

However, the grassroot BJP workers had opposed the seat sharing formula and had instead demanded for a 30:30 ratio.

But, Neiphiu Rio had maintained that his party stands by as to whatever has been agreed already.

Rio had said,”Not at all. Its already decided. I have told you before that we will stand by that decision and everybody was there when we took this decision. So there is no issue.”
