The slain ULFA-Independent cadre has been identified as Uttam Lahon alias Uday Axom who was also an IED expert
In a big blow to the United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA-I), one of its top self-styled field commanders was neutralised by the state police during an encounter in Tinsukia in the wee hours today.
The slain ULFA-Independent cadre has been identified as Uttam Lahon alias Uday Axom who was also an IED expert.
The entire operation was planned by Assam DGP GP Singh who also supervised the operation.
Shortly before 3 am this morning, DGP GP Singh took to Twitter and wrote, “Those who live by the sword, die by the sword,” thus confirming the encounter of the ULFA-Independent cadre.
The encounter of Uday Ahom is being seen as a big success for the state police as the former was instrumental in running the outfit’s extortion activities in Eastern Assam, the police said.
The exchange of fire took place after police launched an operation following inputs about the entry of some ULFA-Independent cadres into Eastern Assam from the Myanmar side.
ULFA-I cadre Uday Axom was killed in the subsequent gun fight in Malugaon under Margherita police station in Tinsukia.
