Nagaland Election 2023: CM Neiphiu Rio, Dy CM Y Patton file nomination

After filing his nomination, CM Rio thanked the people of his constituency for their support

Nagaland Chief Minister and Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) chief Neiphiu Rio, and Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton today filed their nomination papers for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state scheduled to be held on February 27, 2023.

CM Rio will be contesting the election from the ’11 Northen Angami-II’ Assembly constituency against Congress candidate Seyievilie Chachu.
CM Rio is contesting the election for a 5th term as Nagaland Chief Minister.

In 2018, because there were no other candidates, incumbent MLA Neiphiu Rio was declared the winner of the Northern Angami II constituency.

In the 2013 assembly elections in the state, Rio contested on Naga People’s Front (NPF) ticket from the Northern Angami II constituency and won with 15305 votes.

Patton was accompanied by Union Minister Arjun Munda and BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli. He will contest the election from Tyui Assembly constituency.

Patton contested for the BJP in the 2018 and 2008 Assembly elections, and for the Naga People’s Front (NPF) in the 2013 elections. In the 2018 elections, he won from the Tyui seat with 11709 votes.

After filing his nomination, CM Rio thanked the people of his constituency for their support.

” I thank the people of my constituency for putting their trust in me thus far, and I humbly seek their blessings and support again,” Neiphiu Rio said in the tweet.

Talking to Northeast Live CM Rio said that NDPP and its allies BJP would soon organise programmes as part of the election campaign and release the party manifesto.

BJP will contest the election from 20 seats while NDPP field candidates in 40 constituencies.

The Assembly Elections in Nagaland are slated to be held on February 27. The results will be declared on March 2.
