The consignment has been handed over to the Deomali forest division for further action
Several trucks carrying illegal timber logs worth crores of rupees were seized by Army personnel in Arunachal Pradesh today.
The trucks were allegedly being driven by timber mafias through the Hukanjuri-Namsang road in the Deomali sub-division of Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh when Army personnel seized them.
Later, the consignment was handed over to the Deomali forest division for further action.
According to sources, the army had to intervene to stop the illegal timber mafias in the area because the forest department was not taking any action despite reportedly having information about all illegal activities related to timber operations.
Earlier this week, the Arunachal Students Association made repeated complaints against the illegal timber operation in the state.
Following that the Pasighat Forest Division did initiate actions to tackle unlawful activities.
Forest Ranger, Jumgo Geyi from Pasighat Reserve Forest has also sent out strong warnings and advised people against the illegal logging of timber.
Through a series of exclusive reports, Northeast Live has been exposing the issue of illegal timber business in Arunachal Pradesh.
