5 Meghalaya MLAs resign, to join UDP today

The five MLAs have submitted their resignation to Assembly Speaker, Metbah Lyngdoh in the Assembly Secretariat

Five more MLAs from Meghalaya have resigned today ahead of the assembly elections in the state.

The five MLAs who have resigned include–Renikton Tongkhar, cabinet minister and MLA from Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), Shitlang Pale from Trinamool Congress, suspended Congress legislators-Mayralbon Syiem and PT-Sawkmie, and independent MLA Lambor Malngiang.

The five MLAs have submitted their resignation to Assembly Speaker, Metbah Lyngdoh at his chamber in the Assembly Secretariat.

They are all set to join United Democratic Party later today. The five will be formally inducted to (UDP) at the party office later in the day.

As per sources, the names of the five MLAs will be included in the third list of the UDP candidates for the upcoming Assembly polls.

Elections in Meghalaya will likely be held in March.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) would be announcing the dates today.

The Meghalaya Assembly’s five-year tenure is scheduled to expire on March 15.
