Sikkim is celebrating its 43rd official statehood day today.

Though the state became the 22nd Indian State on 26 April 1975, it was on 16th May, 1975 that Sikkim officially merged with the Indian union and became the 22nd state of the country.

Commemorating the same, a mega state level function is held in Gangtok today. Various achievers of the state will also be honored with state awards during the occasion.

The celebratory function will be graced by Sikkim Governor, Shriniwas Patil who will be the chief guest of the program, while Sikkim chief minister Pawan Chamling, who recently became the longest serving chief minister in the country, will be the Guest of Honor.
