Mizoram is Covid free: State Govt

The first person to test positive in Mizoram was a priest who tested positive on March 24, 2020 and was cured on May 5, 2020.
Covid cases have finally hit the zero mark in Mizoram. The state reported no COVID cases after the active cases slumped to nil on Friday after 927 days of pandemic. The state lodged zero covid fatalities for 11 consecutive days and the death toll remains at 697.
The state government began screening of passengers from China at the lone Lengpui airport on January 20, 2020 and the first person tested positive of the Coronavirus was a priest belonging to the Baptist Church who was infected while in Amsterdam. The priest tested positive on March 24, 2020 was cured on May 5, 2020.
12 people, who entered the state during May, 2020 were found to be infected with Covid-19 on June 2 and the number of cases increased day by day.
As of Friday, 19,92,528 samples have been tested in the state of which 2,38,964 infected people were detected and 2,38,238 people have recovered.
At least 726 people have succumbed to the infections in the state with majority of them killed during 2021 when the Delta variant and its sub-variants hit the state. The toll reduced considerably after the advent of the Omicron variant from the last part of last year. During this month, 10 people were found to be infected out of 754 samples tested, but without any casualty.
