NGT Takes Suo Motu Congnisance Of Mizoram Stone Quarry Tragedy, Issues Notice To Govt Depts

Within three days of the tragic Mizoram stone quarry collapse killing at least 12 people, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has taken suo motu cognisance of the horrific incident and issued notice to several Mizoram government departments.
The NGT has asked the officials of Central Pollution Control Board, Mizoram Pollution Control Board, Mizoram Directorate of Geology and Mining, Directorate of Disaster Management, Ministry of Environment and Forest and Climate Change, DC Lunglei and ABCI to appear before the Principal Bench of NGT at the hearing of the case on November 28.

The Green Tribunal mentioned in the notice dated November 16, 2022 that it took note of a new item published in a national daily regarding the stone quarry collapse incident and decided to hear the case suo motu.
At least 12 people lost their lives (two bodies are yet to be found) after a stone quarry they were working in caved in trapping them inside. The incident took place at a road widening and construction site near Maudarh village in Hnahthial district of Mizoram on Monday evening.
