Tripura: Ultimatum to govt by Ex-rebels

First Published: 15th October, 2022 11:49 IST

Former rebels in Tripura who have shunned the path of violence are still awaiting benefits of rehabilitation.

Former rebels in Tripura have warned of indefinite strike including blockade of Assam-Agartala National Highway from November over the alleged government apathy in fulfilling their demands. The ex-rebels under the Deprived Returnees Movement Committee have flayed the government role stating that previous talks between both the sides for reaching a consensus, have failed to yield results.

The DRMC has set a 2-week ultimatum to the government to address their demands, failing which there will be massive agitation across the state by those who have shunned the path of violence.

The demands include compensation for returnees, housing under PMAY, rubber plantations for rehabilitation, benefits under various schemes of agriculture and horticulture, tractors for cultivation, schemes under animal resource development, education for their children and withdrawal of pending police and court cases against them.

The DMRC further alleged that as when the ex-rebels take to streets, the government calls them for deliberations but never pays heed to the demands despite making promises.
