Rousing reception accorded to Mirabai Chanu, Bindyarani Devi in Manipur

Hundreds thronged the airport to congratulate the weightlifters, as their families waited to adorn them with garlands.

After achieving glory for India at the Commonwealth Games, Manipur’s Pride Mirabai Chanu and Bindyarani Devi were accorded a rousing welcome at the Imphal International Airport today.

Manipur’s daughters, pride of India and the Northeast, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu and Sorokhaibam Bindyarani Devi, who clinched gold and silver in their respective weightlifting events at the Commonwealth Games 2022, landed at the Imphal International Airport where they were greeted by family and fans.

Hundreds thronged the airport to congratulate the weightlifters, as their families waited to adorn them with garlands. Fans, supporters sang praises for the ace weightlifters, chanting their names, as the duo brought laurels by winning big at the Commonwealth Games.

While Mirabai has already won a gold medal at the previous edition of CWG and a silver medal at Tokyo Olympics last year, Bindyarani clinched the silver medal in her debut appearance at the CWG.

Speaking to the media Bindyarani said she is now eyeing the Olympics, trials for which will begin in December this year.
