Amid the protest by the All Tribal Students Union Manipur, the state Assembly today passed the Manipur Hills Areas District Councils 6th Amendment bill while the HADC 7th Amendment bill was referred to the Hill Area Committee.

Tribal Affairs and Hill Areas Minister Letpao Haokip had introduced the bill earlier in the session.

The move comes at a time when the ATSUM is opposing the Bills which it has termed unacceptable.

The ATSUM had alleged that the amendment bills were introduced without following due process thus undermining the power and function of the Hill Area Committee.

In fact the ATSUM continues to demand the tabling of the Manipur Hills Areas Bill 2021
