The Uttar Pradesh government has handed over the probe into the mysterious death of Manipuri youth Pravish Chanam in Noida to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

A resident of Uripok area in Imphal West, Chanam had gone missing after attending a concert in Noida on the night of September 8 last year and his body was later found in the Nithari village the next day.

Shockingly, the Uttar Pradesh police cremated his body without informing the family members of the deceased raising demands for a detailed probe into the matter.

This despite brother of Pravish, Ravikanta Chanam filing a missing person case at the Knowledge Park police station in Noida on September 9. Family members alleged that they did not get any updates even though they kept visiting the police station.

The postmortem report shows that shock and haemorrhage due to blunt force injuries had led to the death, further raised suspicions that Pravish might have been brutally assaulted that led to his death. Various civil bodies and organisations have been putting pressure on the government for justice.
