Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju is in Nagaland on a one-day visit. Rijiju will be meeting Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and his cabinet colleagues. The main topic of the meeting is going to be the Union Budget, besides other issues.
Earlier, Rijiju met with leaders of the Nagaland BJP unit, like deputy chief minister Y. Patton and Temjen Imna, Along among others.
Earlier, Rijiju addressed the media at Chumukidima, where he talked about the various fine points of the Union Budget this year and how it gives importance to the Northeastern region.
Talking about the budget, Rijiju said that no one gives attention to the Northeast like Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that the Prime Minister’s divine programme for the Northeast will be implemented in the region by the Northeastern Council.

Rijiju also said the funding for the Northeast as of now is just the beginning, and more funding will be coming in the future. Rijiju also said that the Northeast has a long history of Congress rule, which has adversely affected its progress over the decades.
He said that the BJP has largely enhanced the capacity of budgetary allocation and they are looking to utilise the funding to its full capacity for the development of the region.
Rijiju also talked about improving the connectivity of the region. He said that the Centre is making big plans to connect the remote areas of the region via 4G connectivity.

Rijiju also stated that the Northeast is important to the country because it shares 90% of its borders with other countries.He said that the BJP-led Centre has big plans for the region under the Act East Policy.
Rijiju also added that Northeast youths face an identity crisis in the National capital. He added that earlier there were no provisions to deal with the problem, but now there is a special branch in the Delhi police to look into the issues.
