In light of the recent surge of covid cases across the state, the Tripura government has issued a fresh set of SOPs to curb further spread of the deadly virus.

As per the new SOPs, night curfew has been imposed across the state from 9pm to 5am. Consequently, all shops and commercial establishments except pharmacies have been ordered to close by 8.30pm.

Furthermore, cinema halls, sports complexes, bars, entertainment parks and restaurants have been allowed to operate with upto 50% capacity only. All public meetings in open spaces have been prohibited.

Gyms and swimming pools have been allowed to operate with one third capacity.
Marriage ceremonies have been allowed with only upto 100 persons in attendance while funeral services and last rites have been permitted with upto 20 persons only. Besides, all commercial establishments have been ordered to strictly maintain all covid protocols at all times.

Briefing newspersons on the new SOPs earlier this evening, Tripura Information and Cultural Affairs minister Sushanta Chowdhury stated that the positivity rate of Tripura has gone up to 5 percent while in West Tripura district it is highest with 11.56 percent and within the Agartala Municipal Corporation the positivity rate is 16.95 percent.

Towards a joint effort in curbing the third wave of Covid through better management and proper implementation of the Covid-appropriate behavior in market areas, shopping malls and other businesses organizations, a vital meeting took place today between the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Sadar sub-division Ashim Saha, the representatives of All Tripura Merchant Associations, owners of various shopping malls, businessman unions and representatives of various market committees of Agartala.

The meeting was held at the Sadar SDM’s office chamber and emphasized on the special measures apprehending the Omicorn variety which can spread very fast.
Notably, Agartala with more than 12 % positivity rate is the most vulnerable place in Tripura which on an average has around 4 % positivity rate.
