The fast-spreading Omicron variant of COVID-19 in the Northeastern region has been detected in Manipur today.

As per sources, the patient had recently returned from the East African country of Tanzania and is currently undergoing treatment at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal.

Contact tracing measures have been initiated and the state health department has urged people not to panic.

As per sources, the patient had recently returned from the East African country of Tanzania on December 21.

More details are awaited.
